Former Nissan (NSANY, Financial) CEO Carlos Ghosn expressed doubts about the potential merger between Honda (HMC) and Nissan, calling the plan "meaningless." According to insiders, both automakers are expected to announce the start of business integration talks as they strive to survive in a rapidly changing industry landscape.

Ghosn remarked that there is significant overlap between the two companies from an industrial perspective, and emphasized the necessity of complementarity in mergers, which he believes is lacking between Honda and Nissan. He stated, "If this merger happens, I personally think it will not succeed." In an earlier interview, Ghosn described the merger as a "desperate move" rather than a pragmatic deal.

According to a joint statement from Honda and Nissan, the merger aims to achieve annual sales exceeding 30 trillion yen and an operating profit of over 3 trillion yen.
