Japanese automakers Nissan and Honda are reportedly in talks to merge, potentially including Mitsubishi Motors. The merger aims to strengthen their position against competitors like Tesla and Chinese EV companies. Nissan, currently holding a 24% stake in Mitsubishi, and Honda might establish a holding company and sign a memorandum of understanding soon. This merger could position them as one of the world's largest automakers with over 8 million annual vehicle sales, though still behind Toyota and Volkswagen.
Both companies have not confirmed the reports but acknowledged exploring collaboration opportunities. Earlier, they formed a strategic partnership for sharing car parts and software. This merger would be the largest in the auto industry since the 2021 Stellantis formation.
