Nokia Oyj (NOK, Financials) will provide equipment for over 3,000 stations as Deutsche Telekom AG expands its Open Radio Access Network in Germany.
The deployment is under process at Neubrandenburg, Northern Germany.
The contract entails replacing the current vendor for the designated locations and signals Nokia's comeback as a supplier to Europe's biggest network provider, Deutsche Telekom. Featuring modular baseband units, ReefShark System-on-Chip technology, and Habrok Massive MIMO radios for coverage and capacity, Nokia's 5G AirScale portfolio will These items are meant to fit into Deutsche Telekom's multi-vendor Open RAN system, where Fujitsu will provide mid-band remote radio head devices.
Through its MantaRay NM system, Nokia will also provide network monitoring and AI-powered management solutions along with AI-based deployment, optimization, and support services.
Along with complementing Deutsche Telekom's more general Open RAN approach, the cooperation involves efforts at network renovation.
Beyond this arrangement, Nokia has participated actively in other worldwide projects. Aiming to improve the network infrastructure in India, Nokia signed a multi-billion-dollar deal with Bharti Airtel to provide 4G and 5G equipment.
Under the Artemis III mission, which is set for launch in September 2026, Nokia is also working with NASA to build a 4G network on the Moon, therefore enabling communication for astronauts.
