Global leader in autonomous driving technology, WeRide (WRD.US), has announced that its autonomous sanitation vehicle, the S6, has received the Milestone 1 (M1) public road license from Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA). Additionally, its autonomous sweeper, the S1, has acquired the T1 Assessment public path license, marking a significant step as both products are now permitted for trial operations on designated public roads and paths in Singapore.
The M1 and T1 licenses are critical benchmarks set by Singapore's LTA to assess the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles. In December 2023, WeRide's autonomous minibus obtained both M1 and T1 licenses within a span of three months, highlighting the company's rapid progress in this sector.
According to Singapore's CETRAN test standards, the T1 license focuses on public path testing, emphasizing the technological reliability in specific scenarios and the ability to precisely respond to complex environments. The successful acquisition of this license by WeRide's S1 sweeper underscores its operational safety and efficiency on public paths.
The M1 license evaluates fundamental autonomous driving functions, including the recognition and avoidance of static and dynamic obstacles, as well as overall vehicle safety performance. During the licensing process, WeRide's S6 had to demonstrate its capabilities in a test environment replicating Singapore's urban roads. The vehicle successfully managed complex maneuvers, lane-keeping, and dynamic environment responses, showcasing its flexibility and technological sophistication.
