OpenAI plans to debut a new autonomous AI agent, code-named “Operator,” as a research preview and developer tool in January, Bloomberg reports.

Designed to do tasks and autonomously manage computers, this agent represents a major change in the competitive scene of tech titans creating sophisticated AI systems.

Companies like Anthropic and Google also have comparable AI capabilities, hence this introduction comes as natural. While Google is supposedly to reveal its own version in December, anthropic just included a "computer use" capability. Although the tool is projected to fundamentally change the function of artificial intelligence from only analyzing text and pictures to actively interacting with computer interfaces, specifics surrounding a consumer release for Operator remain unknown.

The release captures the larger drive among artificial intelligence laboratories to commercialize costly AI models. Autonomous agents, maybe as powerful as the first ChatGPT release, are expected by OpenAI and other firms to be the next major product to justify their significant AI research expenditures.

Apart from these developments, OpenAI has also revealed intentions to build its first continental European headquarters in Paris. Emphasizing sales, research, business development, marketing, and communications, this growth seeks to deepen relationships with nearby businesses and organizations.

Additionally, OpenAI included a search engine into their ChatGPT chatbot so that it may provide real-time data like market prices, sports scores, and weather. Starting with premium users, this function puts OpenAI as a rival to major search engines and is being released progressively.

By investing $500 million in OpenAI, SoftBank (SFTBY, Financials) helped to generate a $6.6 billion fundraising round that valued the business at $157 billion. With projections of $3.7 billion in 2024, this investment indicates OpenAI's maturing and significant revenue growth.
