As artificial intelligence (AI) technology advances, Disney is accelerating its integration across multiple divisions. The company is forming a new team to manage the use of AI and mixed reality technologies, exploring their applications in films, television, and theme parks.

The newly established Office of Technology Enablement will be led by Disney's Chief Technology Officer, Jamie Voris, who previously developed applications for Apple's Vision Pro mixed reality device. Eddie Drake is set to succeed Voris as CTO.

Alan Bergman, Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman, emphasized the transformative impact of AI and extended reality (XR) on consumer experiences, creativity, and business. He highlighted the formation of this team as a commitment to embracing opportunities and addressing potential risks in these technologies. This department will focus on rapid advancements in AI and mixed realities, blending physical and digital worlds to align with the company's strategic goals.

Jamie Voris will report to Alan Bergman, and the new office is expected to grow to approximately 100 employees. Disney has been at the forefront of adopting emerging technologies, previously integrating augmented reality to merge digital elements with the real world.

Sources indicate that Disney has been quietly developing a team to leverage these technologies, aiming to enhance the consumer experience both in their theme parks and at home, especially as companies like Meta and Snap introduce fashionable alternatives to bulky VR goggles.

According to market research firm IDC, about 1.7 million AR/VR headsets have been sold worldwide this year, with Meta holding a dominant 60.5% market share.
