ArcelorMittal, a leading steel manufacturer, has filed a lawsuit against XPeng Motors and other dealerships, alleging infringement of its patent EP3290200B1. XPeng Motors has responded by emphasizing its commitment to intellectual property rights and innovation.
The lawsuit was submitted to the Unified Patent Court in Europe, naming 17 defendants, including dealerships in Düsseldorf, Germany, and Luxembourg. ArcelorMittal's patent, filed in 2006 and granted in 2021, relates to a core technology for aluminum-silicon coated hot stamping steel, a material used in manufacturing processes.
Some analysts believe that ArcelorMittal aims to compel companies like XPeng Motors to source steel products from them through this legal action. XPeng Motors, however, clarified that they have taken measures to ensure their G9 products do not infringe on the patent in target markets by working with designated suppliers.
XPeng Motors stated its ongoing communication with ArcelorMittal and is verifying the material sources with suppliers to ensure compliance with standards.
