Columbus Circle Investors is a private investment management company that was founded in 1975. Columbus Circle Investors is based out of Stamford, Connecticut and operates as a subsidiary of Principal Global Investors. The company has a growth oriented investment philosophy, utilizing a fundamental analysis with a bottom up stock picking approach to make its investment decisions. Columbus Circle Investors uses a four step process, first identifying 6-10 leading indicators for a specific company’s business, then determining a consensus expectation for each of the leading indicators, then comparing actual results to the expectations with the objective of finding companies with positive surprise, and finally constructing diversified portfolios. Columbus Circle Investors primarily invests in the growth stocks of companies across all cap levels, measuring its performance against the Russell 100 Growth, Russell Mid Cap Growth, Russell 2000 Growth, Russell 2500 Growth, and Lipper Science and Technology indexes. The company focuses its investments in the health care, technology, and services sectors, which together make up over 60% of its total investment allocations, and also invests in the financial, consumer cyclical, transportation, consumer noncyclical, basic materials, and capital goods sectors, among others to a lesser extent, in order of decreasing amount allocated. Columbus Circle Investors currently has over $16 billion in total assets under management spread across over 200 accounts. While its total number of accounts has been decreasing in recent years, going from just over 300 accounts in 2010 to its current amount, its total assets under management has increased from under $10 billion five years prior to its current amount. Columbus Circle Investors’s client base includes pension and profit sharing plans investment companies, high net worth individuals, corporations, charities, pooled investment vehicles, individuals, banking or thrift institutions, and state or municipal government entities, in order of decreasing clientele. The company currently offers its small, mid, and large cap portfolio, SMID portfolio, technology portfolio, and alternative investments.
