Time to buy TAL?

I like the company and management is also the founder. Also with 5.98B cash and equivalent and small debt overall, the cash itself is now worth more than $9 a share. Give the current price, Seem to be a bargain to me. I seem to be getting all the worst and any positivity, either from the government or the company itself changing course, will be a potential catalyst. I have bought some and actively monitor it. Share your comments on how your perspective looks.

is there any plan of them to restructure according to the new regualatios? wondering if you had any insights on that because as of now it just seems like a tipical cigarbud type of investment, but if there is the possebility of them getting out of this mess somewhat alive it could become a great catalyst for them.

hello, i'm a bit new to stocks, but I would like to offer my thoughts. would the chinese government ever loosen their regulations on for-profit tutoring? i don't see much space for growth unless the ban lifts; if the company is still alive by then, then it would be a great stock to be holding.

It seems a bargain from the valuation side. Yet, we have to understand that China said these businesses are now "non-profit". If they cannot generate any profit, how the stock will increase in price?

I think that the term "non-profit" mislead lots of investors, I looked through the publication and all I found is education related to K-12 only is turning non-profit. Maybe I miss some info, but there are other sectors for TAL that should not be impacted (based on their IR page, they also have adult education, a program for study abroad, non-official-education related skill classes, i,e. chess class). The major trouble is I cannot find out (even in their annual) on revenue related to those sectors. The guess is pretty small, but should not be nothing.

The thinking is with those many ways they can alter the course, then it can be a pretty decent turn-around. But does anyone know how this ADS works? If TAL go broke and debts are repaid, that huge amount of remainig cash is going back to ADR shareholder or we got nothing?

How do you know that the CEO is trustworthy and good at capital allocation?

I bought TAL for a quick 40% swing because the drop seemed excessive and too fast. This was a quick swing play so not a value play at all. In terms of the long term outlook, I have read some interesting perspectives on how TAL and EDU are in a strong position to quickly modify their curriculum. Note, the Chinese regulators have deemed the core curriculum as off limits but the regulations do not address course work outside of this. TAL and EDU have tremendous resources, I suspect they will find a way to pivot and continue to earn. That being said, this is extremely speculative and I tend to try and avoid "Catching falling knives". I would wait for confirmation of a turnaround before risking my equity in them on a more long term basis. Just my two cents.
