General Motors (GM) announced its withdrawal from the Cruise self-driving taxi project, which impacts Microsoft (MSFT, Financial). The tech giant expects to incur an $800 million write-down in the second quarter of 2025 due to its minority stake in Cruise, affecting earnings negatively by about $0.09 per share.

Microsoft invested in Cruise as part of a $2 billion investment round announced in January 2021, with GM holding the majority stake in the company.
