The US government has granted Microsoft (MSFT, Financial) permission to export advanced AI chips for its UAE cloud computing operations, amidst scrutiny over its partnership with UAE's AI firm G42. This decision emerges as the UAE invests heavily in AI infrastructure to become a global leader. Earlier this year, Microsoft invested $1.5 billion in G42, gaining a minority stake and a board seat. The partnership includes using Microsoft's cloud services, including AI capabilities, for developing AI applications. The deal faced US government scrutiny over potential tech transfers to China. Microsoft's Azure and AI capabilities are pivotal as UAE seeks to enhance its AI infrastructure, supported by major US cloud firms.
