A digital advertising employee, Amar Bhakta, has filed a lawsuit against Apple (AAPL, Financial) for unlawful monitoring of its employees. According to the lawsuit filed in California state court, Apple makes its employees download and install such applications on their devices. The application has privileges to access employees' emails, photos, health records, and smart home information. Bhakta also considers Apple restrained with a strict non-disclosure policy that discourages whoever works with the company from reporting work conditions to the public or whistleblowing. He claims these actions violate the employee's rights to speech, mobility, and freedom of speech and movement.
Apple has dismissed these allegations, saying that its policies act within the law to respect its clients' privacy. It states that employees are trained to perform their rights to discuss work conditions annually. This is in addition to a long list of legal complaints currently facing Apple, such as a case that alleges the company has been paying its female workers less than their male counterparts for years. Bhakta's legal advisers assist women also in that case; the program shows the problems of fairness at work, including Apple. When the case goes further, it can strongly impact the future of the company's privacy and work relations.
