TSMC (TSM, Financial) Senior Vice President, Hou Yongqing, has emphasized the importance of Taiwan dedicating more resources to advance chip technology and expand its supply chain expertise to maintain its global leadership position. This statement comes in the wake of former President Trump's election, during which he suggested tariffs on companies like TSMC to encourage them to establish and expand chip facilities in the U.S.

Hou highlighted the need for Taiwan to accelerate its research and development efforts. He also proposed evaluating strategies to attract foreign partners to set up design and material centers in Taiwan. This step is deemed crucial for Taiwan to develop more expertise in equipment and materials dominated by foreign enterprises.

Currently, Taiwan's chip industry has not received any new tariff directives from the U.S.
