Avangrid, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), a leading sustainable energy company and member of the Iberdrola Group, has achieved a joint certification in ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 for its Onshore Renewables business, becoming one of the first businesses within the Iberdrola Group to do so. ISO 14001 is for environmental management systems and ISO 45001 is for occupational health and safety systems.

“We are incredibly proud to achieve this joint certification under ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. This demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the health and safety of our staff and to Avangrid maintaining the highest levels of environmental stewardship across our renewable energy project fleet,” said Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO. “This is yet another example of Avangrid, and the Iberdrola Group at large, dedicating itself to continuous improvement and leading the energy industry.”

Auditors from Bureau Veritas, Avangrid’s external registrar, spent 31 days examining Avangrid’s renewable energy operations, visiting 10 clean energy sites and the business’s Portland, Oregon office. While Avangrid has achieved ISO 45001 certification in the past, this was the first time the business audited its environmental management systems. This was also the first time the audit included both operational and construction sites.

"We are pleased to grant Avangrid with this combined certification, which illustrates the Group's societal commitment and continuous improvement efforts,” said Laurent Croguennec, Vice President at Bureau Veritas Certification North America, Inc. “In a rapidly evolving world, this recognition demonstrates how Avangrid builds resilience into its activities and daily operations, minimizing its environmental and social impact."

The audit team identified several areas where the Onshore business was deemed “excellent”, including the competency development programs provided through the new National Training Center (including its dedicated resources and structured training programs), platforms provided to ensure proactive incident reporting, the Management of Change process, monitoring and reporting of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) reporting metrics, the corporate level of EH&S support provided to Renewables sites, housekeeping and industrial hygiene across sites, ergonomic trainings and awareness programs, management and evaluation of permitting compliance, and more.

Avangrid’s onshore business has over 9.0 GW of installed clean energy capacity spread across more than 75 project sites in 22 states.
