Numeric Investors is a private investment management company based out of Boston. The company was founded in 1989, launching with its first U.S. equity strategy. The company would introduce more strategies in the 1990s including its market neutral, small cap, and international strategy and implement an algorithmic trading in 1995. Numeric Investors continued to grow and expand in the 2000s with Michael Even being named as CEO in 2006, and continuing to act in that position, and Rob Furdak named as CIO in 2007, becoming replaced by the current CIO Shanta Puchtler in 2012. The company was acquired by Man Group PLC and currently acts as its subsidiary today. Numeric Investors conducts its research internally, utilizing both fundamental and quantitative analysis with bottom up and top down investment styles to make its asset allocation decisions. The company invests in various public equity markets on a global scale, allocating its assets in the growth and value stocks of companies across all market caps. Numeric Investors currently invests most heavily in the finance and information technology sectors, each making up approximately one fifth of its total asset allocations, and also invests in the health care, consumer discretionary, consumer staples, energy, utilities and telecommunications, and industrials sectors, among others to a lesser degree, in order of decreasing allocation. Numeric Investors currently has 83 employees of which 29 are investment professionals. The firm holds over $18 billion in total assets under management spread across 93 accounts, all of which are discretionary. Although its number of accounts has been volatile and decreased in recent years, its total assets under management has increased significantly, growing from $8 billion back in 2010 to well over twice that amount today. The company mainly caters to pension and profit sharing plans and pooled investment vehicles, which each make up more than a third of its client base, and also offers its services to a variety of other clients. Numeric Investors currently provides a variety of strategies including its Absolute Return, Emerging Markets Global Core, and World Market Neutral offerings.
